Nick Sherk, the Athletic Supervisor at the Middlebury Clubhouse, was eager for the new gym floor to be installed, but he knew it would mean dealing with some major renovations. With the gym out of commission for two weeks, Nick knew he had to get creative in order to keep the members active and engaged. And boy, did he succeed!
During the construction process, the cafe was temporarily relocated to the hallway to make room for some much-needed “gym” time. Nick stepped in to make the most of the situation by setting up fun games for the members. He organized knee hockey matches, human foosball tournaments, balloon dance parties, pretend snowball fights, and more!
As an expert in engaging young minds and nurturing physical activity, Nick knew that keeping kids active was one of the most essential ways to keep them engaged and ensure they have fun. And he did not disappoint. The members were happy to play the other games and still have a space to burn off some energy after school.
As the Middlebury Clubhouse has a reputation to create an environment of both fun and comfort, Nick managed to keep the spirit alive, even during times of facility maintenance. He encouraged the members to get to know one another and enjoy the time they spent together. The result was more than just a temporary solution, it was an experience that the kids will remember for years to come.
Sports and physical activities have the power to create a sense of community, while promoting physical health at the same time. Nick’s efforts perfectly demonstrate this; by being creative and flexible, he was able to keep the members active and engaged. The two weeks of gym floor renovations turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as it allowed members to learn new games, make new friends, and most importantly, have fun!
At the Middlebury Clubhouse, we are proud to have staff members like Nick who go above and beyond to ensure that our members have the best experience possible.
