This summer, 20 young members from Boys & Girls Clubs of Elkhart County’s Middlebury Club participated in an intensive five-day golf program held at Meadow Valley

Golf Club. The program aimed to introduce the youth to the fundamentals of golf, helping them develop both technical skills and an appreciation for the sport.

Throughout the week, participants learned a variety of essential golf techniques, including how to hit accurate tee shots, execute challenging bunker chip shots, and place the ball precisely on the green from the fairway. They also practiced sinking long-distance putts, which helped improve their confidence and understanding of the game.

While the participants are not yet professional golfers, many have expressed a newfound love for the sport and a deep respect for the athleticism and skill required to play at a competitive level. “I may not always hit the fairway yet, but at least I know why it’s happening and how to fix it,” declared Weston Meadows, one of the Junior participants. The program not only focused on improving their golf skills but also emphasized essential values such as patience, perseverance, and sportsmanship.

By the end of the week, the youth had shown significant progress in their abilities, and more importantly, their confidence. Witnessing their growth and enthusiasm was a rewarding experience for both coaches and organizers, highlighting the positive impact of engaging young people in challenging and rewarding activities. The golf program successfully fostered a sense of accomplishment among the participants. It inspired many to pursue further involvement in the sport, encouraging personal development and healthy activity among area youth.
