As Mental Health Awareness Month came to a close, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Elkhart County took center stage in shedding light on the importance of mental health and self-care. Throughout the month of May, our dedicated Mental Health Team orchestrated a series of impactful initiatives aimed at uplifting and supporting our families, youth, teens, and staff.

Leah Briggs, with her unwavering dedication to the well-being of teens, spearheaded the Teen Mental Health Nights that resonated with our young members. Collaborating with teen staff at each Club, Leah curated an environment where teens felt comfortable discussing self-care, engaging in moments of reflection and mindfulness, partaking in peer bonding activities, and sharing insights on self-care practices. These sessions not only provided a safe space for teens to open up but also fostered a sense of community and mutual support among our youth.

Meanwhile, Natasha Lantz, the esteemed Director of Health Services, alongside our esteemed Mental Health Committee, organized a transformative Self-Care Matters event for the employees of Boys & Girls Clubs of Elkhart County. This event was a testament to the organization’s commitment to the holistic well-being of its workforce, offering a rejuvenating experience that left participants feeling valued, cherished, and cared for. Natasha emphasized that prioritizing mental health should extend beyond the confines of a single month and encouraged everyone to embrace self-care practices consistently.

Natasha’s poignant words resound through time: “I encourage everyone to focus on self-care and utilize your mental health day benefits. Also, look out for those who may be struggling or going through a tough time and ask how they are doing and how you can help. We all MATTER and deserve to be seen and loved.”

The message is clear – our mental health is paramount, and advocating for oneself and others should be a year-round endeavor. Let us take Natasha’s words to heart, extending empathy, support, and care not just in May but in every moment, because mental health truly matters.

As we reflect on the impact of Mental Health Awareness Month, let us carry forward the spirit of compassion, understanding, and self-empowerment in all our interactions. Together, we can create a community where mental health is valued, upheld, and nurtured – today, tomorrow, and always.

Stay tuned for more inspiring initiatives and events from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Elkhart County as we continue our journey of promoting mental health and well-being for all.
