The Joy of Welcoming Back a Club Kid: Miranda’s Journey

At the heart of our community at the Middlebury Club, we often reflect on the incredible transformations that take place within our walls. This is particularly true when we welcome back alums who have grown and learned and wish to give back. One shining example is Miranda Pfahler, a former Club kid who has returned to us as a social work intern and AmeriCorps member, ready to impact the next generation.

Like many kids starting at a new place, Miranda was nervous when she joined the Goshen Club in first grade. Over the years, however, Club became a safe haven for her. It was where she made unforgettable friendships, explored her creativity in the art room, and felt the guiding support of staff. Miranda’s connection to the Club helped shape her passion for social work, which she now pours into her daily interactions with our kids.

Now, as a social work intern at Middlebury Club, Miranda embodies the very essence of why we do what we do. Her enthusiasm and commitment to the kids are palpable. She brings them into the sensory room, provides a listening ear for those who need to talk, and facilitates the Zones of Regulation group—a program designed to help kids regulate their emotions. The positive feedback from kids who participate in these sessions has been tremendous, showcasing the profound impact Miranda is making. Furthermore, her initiative to create a teen mental health group with Leah Briggs, our Mental Health Specialist, speaks volumes about her desire to connect with our teens and foster a safe space to share their feelings.

Miranda has become a trusted figure for these young people, proving that the relationships built at Club have a lasting impact. Miranda’s journey from a shy first grader to a confident mentor and community leader is not just a personal victory but a celebration for all of us at Club. Her story inspires other kids to envision their paths and dream big about their futures. Seeing someone who once sat in our chairs now standing as a role model reminds us of our programs’ purpose and power.

As she completes her final semester of college and steps confidently into her career, we couldn’t be prouder to have had her as part of our team this past year. She has come full circle, bringing with her the spirit and experiences of a Club kid who truly understands the value of our mission. We are incredibly grateful for Miranda’s presence and contributions. She proves that our work within these walls goes far beyond providing activities; it’s about cultivating a cycle of giving back—a legacy that strengthens our community. We are excited to continue making significant strides in our kids’ lives, arming them with the tools to navigate their journeys.
