JOB SUMMARY
Area Director Primary Function: Manages overall daily operations with the primary concern for compliance of programs and service delivery, supervision and training of staff, facilities management, community relations and partnerships, branding, strategic planning, and membership administration.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of supervisory experience (i.e. Site Supervisor or Manager position)
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a role overseeing school-aged children in a group supervision setting

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of youth development strategies; must have sound judgment regarding safety
• Ability to effectively communicate including verbal, written, in small and large group settings
• Ability to effectively build a high performing team; group leadership skills, including motivating and inspiring
• Must be able to collaborate effectively; ability to apply critical thinking skills when problem solving
• Must be confident and adept at conflict resolutions strategies
• Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as managing files and records, following up on phone calls, conducting meetings, completing reports and tracking data
• Ability to develop a high-quality program by planning, goal setting and creating a vision

RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership
• Ensures establishment of and adherence to policies and procedures that reflect the Club’s mission and values
• Make informed critical decisions; assists in establishing and disseminating department procedures
• Develops the Program Managers and Supervisors regarding leadership and decision-making skills by identifying and providing training and workshops

Strategy
• Ensures an environment, program and service that prepares youth for success
• Ensures that established programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and that creates an environment that facilitates achievement of Youth Development outcomes and the goals of the grants
• Ensures all programs maintain a healthy safe environment, ensuring facilities, equipment and supplies are well kept

Supervision
• Allocates and monitors work assigned to site supervisors, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal
• Identifies and supports training and development opportunities for assigned staff
• Oversees and maintains proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted, breakdowns of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problems/issues
• Ensures productive and effective performance by all assigned program staff and volunteers

Program Development and Implementation
• Ensures standards and expectations are met, that facilitate achievements of Youth Development Outcomes, by working with COO to align programming with strategic goals and NYOI objectives
• Disseminate and evaluate program goals and settings that ensure the health and safety of members; observes and evaluates that all staff understand and effectively communicate standards of the program, that they ensure program areas are safe, well ventilated and well lit, and that program equipment is in good working condition
• Monitors and evaluates program expenditures within approved budget
• Ensures all designated programs and activities support Youth Development Outcomes and support designated benchmarks to empower our youth in character development, healthy life skills, academic enrichment, and service to community
• Strong ambassador of the Club, engaging in opportunities to promote through public speaking at civic groups, schools, churches, and local businesses to strengthen partnership and overall Club awareness and branding within Elkhart Resource Management
• Ensures programs expenditures are within program budgets; maintains appropriate financial records and yearly budget preparation with established benchmarks
• Manages and monitors the Club sites to ensure a healthy and safe environment and that all equipment and supplies are well maintained; ensures compliance with organizational policies
• Conducts regular team meetings to ensure sites are operating consistently and in accordance with BGCEC policies
• Assists Human Resources with recruiting, selecting assigned staff and volunteers, ensuring productive and effective performance; ensures compliance with organization policies; manages and provides professional development for staff and volunteers

Technology & Facilities
• Conducts audits of proper member tracking in the database for monitoring and evaluating programs
• Provides support to program staff on how to effectively market their programs
• Ensures site, vehicles and grounds are safe & well-maintained
• Performs all other duties as assigned

Communication
• Maintains daily communication with Program Manager to receive and provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines and instructions and advise or seek counsel; provides Senior Management with department updates and solicit feedback as needed
• Maintains communication as needed with school personnel, members, parents, community partners and BGCEC departments to promote and ensure programs and services are meeting established standards and requirements
