Members at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Elkhart County’s Goshen Clubhouse are incorporating a variety of activities into their afternoons to honor Hispanic Heritage Month. The national celebration runs through October 15.
As part of “brain gain” activities at the Club, members are creating crafts and learning about the culture and heritage.
“As a community, we can embrace each other’s values and be inclusive to all. We are providing a variety of activities here at Club and partnering with organizations like the Goshen Public Library to showcase the resources we have together to celebrate this month,” said Goshen Area Director Fidel Mireles.
The learning center has showcased a Mexican hat dance and helped members learn to count to 10 in Spanish through activities and songs. As a reward for completing one activity, members received cookies with words in both English and Spanish.
In one of the game rooms, members spent time creating “fortune tellers” using Spanish words.
Other activities are planned over the next few weeks.
