CLASS OF 2022: Goshen Member Looks Forward To Future

Graduation season is a time to look back at accomplishments and ahead to the future. That’s what Stephany Figueroa-Diaz is doing as she prepares to graduate from Goshen High School. She’s been a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Elkhart County’s Goshen Clubhouse for the past eight years.

“What I really enjoy is going to the art room every day and drawing, painting and doodling just for fun,” she said.

During her years at Club, Figueroa-Diaz has been able to go on trips and be part of many programs, including being part of Junior Staff at the Club to gain job experience.

“We went to Florida with other teens and helped people there clean up their homes as a community service project. Everything was new. It was my first time in Florida so I got to experience a lot that was new,” she said.

When interacting with others at Club, she tries to be a source for good.

“I like to be around the people here and show them some positive energy. I always try to spread positive vibes to people who may not be feeling the best — spread some joy to the people who need it,” she said.

As for her future plans?

“I hope to go to Goshen College and study nursing. I would like to work in a nursing home setting. I want to be able to help them one on one,” Figueroa-Diaz said.

But as her time at Club comes to an end, there’s one thing she knows for sure.

“I’m going to miss everything. It’s been a special place.”
